The Quaternary Period (2.6 million years ago–present) is the most recent part of the Cenozoic Era, marked by ice ages, the rise of humans, and the spread of modern animals and plants. The climate has shifted between cold glacial periods and warmer interglacial periods, shaping the world we see today.
